Learning and Development

All children learn and develop at different rates and in different ways. All these areas of learning and development are of equal importance and all areas are inter-connected.
Play and Exploration
Children have a wide range of varied interests and preoccupations, and their
play reflects this. Play is where children learn at their highest level.
Play with their peers is important for their development.
Active Learning
Involves other people, objects, ideas and events that engage and involve
children for sustained periods. Children learn best through physical
and mental challenges.
Creative and Critical Thinking
When children have opportunities to play with ideas in different situations
and with a variety of resources, they discover connections and come to
new and better understandings and ways of doing things. Adult support
enhances their ability to think critically and ask questions.
Areas of Learning and Development
The EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) is made up of six areas of learning
all of which are connected to one another and are equally important. All
these areas of Learning and Development are underpinned by the Principles
of the EYFS.
