It is my policy in this childminding setting that Ofsted and the Safeguarding Unit are informed of any serious accident or injury to, or serious illness of, or the death of any child whilst in my care, and act on any advice given.

As the registered childminder and I am first aid trained. Should any outings take place then the travel first aid kit will always be taken. It is my job to ensure the first aid kit is adequately stocked.

Any accidents in my childminding setting are documented in the form of an accident book. This specifies the nature of the injury, and what medical attention (if any) was sought. Depending on the seriousness of the injury parents will be informed immediately and the action taken will be discussed with them at great length. I will ensure that I will take the time at at the end of the day to inform them of any incidents ie. trips, falls, scratches etc. and ensure any accidents are signed for and acknowledged.

In this setting it is my priority to ensure all the children in my care are protected from illness and infection. To ensure I carry this out in the correct way I follow the strict guidelines set out by Dr Baxter, this informs me of incubation periods and also guides us on how long a child with a particular illness requires exclusion from the setting (if any).

If a child becomes unwell in my setting, or is displaying a temperature of 38.0 or above then the parents of the child will be informed immediately. They will then be expected to collect their child and not return to the setting until they are well again.

All parents are expected to provide emergency contact numbers other than their own in case they are unavailable to come and collect their child themselves.
