Evacuation Policy by Sharon Taylor.

In the event of a possible fire in my childminding setting then the following evacuation procedure will be adhered to.
- Quickly, but as calmly as possible the children will be gathered together. I will ensure that children who can walk with confidence leave the building in front of me, and I will carry any children who cannot walk unaided.
- I will have the register, a mobile phone and a personal details of all parents, in my possession as I leave the building. This can be achieved by filling an evacuation bag with all these items that I can pick up and put on my back.
- I will take the children to the driveway of the house opposite my house. As this is most likely to be a safe distance away, and the traffic on my road is next to none existent, and crossing it to get to a safe distance is both safe and reasonable.
- I will then phone the Fire Brigade on 999 and ensure all children in my care are calm. I will contact all parents to come and collect their child.
- A fire in the living room: we will exit through the back door and out down the side of the house to the driveway opposite. A fire in the kitchen: we will exit through the front door again to the driveway opposite.
